National Chairman aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Awentami Paul Afoko, has said his decision to return to active leadership within the party is rooted in a commitment to helping the NPP reclaim political power and pave the way for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to become President of Ghana.
Speaking to party supporters in the Volta, Oti and Central regions, Mr Afoko explained that his renewed involvement is not driven by personal ambition but by his conviction that the NPP can stage a strong political resurgence if it addresses internal divisions and strengthens party unity. He stressed that political power should be harnessed to promote national development and argued that restoring cohesion within the party is a prerequisite for winning back the confidence of voters.
He also called on party elders and veteran members to view the NPP’s shrinking parliamentary presence as a wake-up call, noting that the decline in seats reflects the urgent need for organisational reforms and intensified grassroots mobilisation.
According to Mr Afoko, the party’s dwindling representation in Parliament over recent electoral cycles underscores the need for decisive action. He urged members to work together to reverse the trend through discipline, reconciliation and collective effort, maintaining that internal unity is essential to rebuilding trust, strengthening the party’s competitiveness and positioning it for future electoral success.
