Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Paul Afoko, has called on the party’s Minority Caucus in Parliament to lead efforts aimed at restoring the NPP’s electoral fortunes. During a closed-door engagement with Minority MPs, Mr Afoko introduced a political blueprint known as the “3R Agenda,” which focuses on reuniting, rebuilding, and recapturing power for the party.

He explained that the agenda is intended to promote unity within the party, reinforce grassroots structures, and strategically position the NPP for future electoral victories.

“For years, I chose to work quietly behind the scenes, supporting the NPP in private,” Mr Afoko said.

“But recent developments have compelled me to step forward. We need to get our party back into winning ways, and that starts with unity and purpose.”

Mr Afoko emphasised the important responsibility Minority MPs carry as both legislators and key figures capable of fostering unity within the party.

He cautioned that without conscious efforts to mend divisions and strengthen cohesion, the party’s chances of returning to power could be undermined.

Reflecting on his time as National Chairman, Mr Afoko cited the NPP’s 2014 presidential primaries as a model of party discipline and unity.

“We conducted primaries where every candidate accepted the outcome, and no one broke away to run independently,” he said.

“Leaders like Sammy Awuku can attest to the level of organisation and trust we had at the time.”

He further observed that the party’s support base had declined over the years, especially during periods in government when competition for appointments and positions often created internal tensions.

“Historically, even in opposition, the NPP has outperformed the NDC in vote percentages,” Mr Afoko stated.

“That tells us our base is strong, but it has weakened. The question now is: how do we win it back?”

He said the solution lies in implementing the “3R Agenda,” which includes:

  • Reuniting the party by healing divisions and rebuilding trust among factions;
  • Rebuilding party structures from the grassroots to the national level;
  • Recapturing support by reconnecting with the party’s base and presenting a united and credible image to the electorate.

Mr Afoko urged party faithful to embrace the vision, pointing to his past achievements as proof of his commitment and ability to produce results.

“My record speaks for itself. I am result-oriented, and with the collective support of the party, we can achieve this,” he said.

He ended by encouraging the NPP to set aside internal conflicts and concentrate on winning back the confidence of Ghanaians ahead of future elections.
