Former Minister for Finance and Member of Parliament for Karaga, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, has publicly declared his support for former New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman, Mr Awentami Paul Afoko, in the race for the party’s National Chairman position ahead of its internal elections.
Dr Amin Adam said Mr Afoko possesses the experience and leadership needed to rebuild the party and prepare it to return to government, stressing that the NPP, now in opposition, needs capable leadership to chart its next course.
He made the declaration when Mr Afoko, accompanied by a delegation of NPP executives and party members, paid him a courtesy visit at his private residence.
Explaining his endorsement, Dr Amin Adam said Mr Afoko’s competence, leadership credentials and ability to reposition the party for future electoral victories informed his decision.
“I support Paul Afoko for National Chairman,” he said.
The former Finance Minister maintained that decisions on party leadership should be based on merit and ability rather than public sentiment.
“We know the serious people who can bring us back to power. We do not follow the masses to choose someone to support; we support those we believe have the potential to win and lead the party,” he said.
Dr Amin Adam also reaffirmed his unwavering support for the NPP’s 2024 presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, while insisting that Mr Afoko is the best candidate to oversee the party’s rebuilding process.
He noted that his confidence in Mr Afoko stems from their past working relationship and his personal assessment of his leadership abilities.
“I have worked with Paul Afoko, and I know he is competent. He can also help raise funds for the party because we need money as a party in opposition,” he said.
Mr Afoko has been engaging party delegates and supporters across the country as part of his campaign for the National Chairman position, promoting his 3Rs Agenda, which focuses on Reuniting, Rebuilding and Returning the NPP to power.
