The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have temporarily shut down the Mallam and Achimota primary substations after heavy rainfall triggered severe flooding in parts of the Greater Accra Region.
In a joint statement, the two power utilities said the decision was taken as a precaution to protect lives and property after floodwaters affected critical electricity infrastructure at the affected substations.
According to the statement, the flooding created serious risks to electrical equipment and operational staff, making it necessary to suspend power supply until the situation becomes safe for operations to resume.
GRIDCo and ECG said they are continuously monitoring developments and conducting comprehensive assessments to determine the extent of the damage to the transmission and distribution network.
The utilities also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and immediately report any fallen electricity poles, exposed or damaged power lines, flooded electrical installations, or other electricity-related hazards to the nearest ECG office or through the company’s customer service channels.
They apologised to customers for the disruption and thanked them for their patience and cooperation.
GRIDCo and ECG further assured the public that electricity supply would be restored as quickly as possible once weather conditions improve and it is safe to restart operations.
