The Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Ghana, has appealed to the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) to urgently facilitate the payment of Institution Specific Allowances agreed upon for staff of its designated member organisations.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Executive of the FWSC, Dr George Smith-Graham, with copies sent to the Ghana News Agency, the Union stated that negotiations on the allowances were successfully concluded on March 31, 2026, under an Interim Operational Allowance arrangement.

According to the Union, the agreed allowances were scheduled to take effect from April 2026.

The PSWU noted that the successful negotiation and signing of the agreement between the FWSC and the Union prevented a planned industrial action earlier this year. However, it expressed concern that the agreed payments had yet to be implemented, leaving affected members frustrated and increasingly agitated.

The Union cautioned that if the allowances are not paid by Tuesday, June 30, 2026, it would be forced to review its next line of action, including the possibility of reviving the suspended industrial action.

“We count on your usual cooperation in this matter,” the letter, signed by Mr John Nii Donu Sampah, Deputy General Secretary of the PSWU, stated.

Copies of the letter were also forwarded to the Minister of Finance, the National Security Coordinator, the Executive Secretary of the National Labour Commission, the Secretary-General of the TUC, and all affected PSWU member organisations.
