Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has asserted that the governing Majority is failing to effectively manage the affairs of the state. He criticized key appointees of the NDC administration for engaging in public disputes despite the government’s claims of economic improvement and its celebration of Ghana’s successful completion of the IMF programme.
Contributing to parliamentary debate on a statement by the Finance Minister regarding the economy and the conclusion of the IMF programme, Afenyo-Markin cited the recent disagreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture over the disbursement of funds as proof of poor coordination within government.
“The Agric Ministry and the Finance Ministry are at war. Mister Speaker, whereas one ministry is saying funds have been released, the other ministry says that no.
“This is a government that has lost control; it cannot even take care of each 189 in this chamber. Mr Speaker, the NDC majority is a majority on paper.”
Mr. Afenyo-Markin argued that the public back-and-forth between the two ministries highlights growing divisions within the administration and indicates a lack of clear leadership and direction.
