The Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations has rejected claims circulating on social media alleging that the Minister, Samuel Nartey George, has misappropriated or “blown” public funds, describing the assertions as misleading and taken out of context.
In a statement released on May 18, the Ministry clarified that the document circulating online is merely an excerpt from a wider internal request for Commitment Authorisation.
It added that the request forms part of routine public financial management processes and relates to budget provisions that have already been approved by Parliament for the 2026 fiscal year.
The Ministry also clarified that the submission is still awaiting approval from the Ministry of Finance.
“The said Commitment Authorisation request is yet to receive approval from the Ministry of Finance,” the statement noted, adding that no funds have been released or spent on the items under discussion.
It further emphasized that the allegations of financial wrongdoing are baseless, stressing that “no funds have been released, disbursed or expended in relation to the items referenced in the circulating document.”
The Ministry called on the public to ignore what it described as false and misleading interpretations of the document.
Reaffirming its commitment to accountability, it stated that it remains dedicated to transparency and full adherence to financial regulations in carrying out its responsibilities.
It further said that the circulating claims “must be treated with the contempt it deserves,” and urged the public to depend only on verified official statements.
