MTNGH records over 788,000 shares traded but closes lower on the Ghana Stock Exchange.

The Ghana Stock Exchange closed Session 7210 on Wednesday with mixed market performance, as the benchmark GSE Composite Index recorded a decline while the financial stocks index posted gains, according to official figures.

The GSE Composite Index dropped by 168.89 points to settle at 14,352.08, compared to Tuesday’s close of 14,520.97. Meanwhile, the GSE Financial Stocks Index rose by 31.32 points to end the session at 8,049.64.

Market capitalisation also edged down slightly, closing at GH¢264.55 billion from the previous session’s GH¢264.95 billion.

A total of 1,065,672 shares were exchanged on the market, with the trades generating a turnover of GH¢5.79 million.

MTNGH emerged as the most actively traded stock during the session. The telecommunications company recorded a trading volume of 788,826 shares, accounting for the majority of transactions on the market. Despite the strong activity, the stock declined by GH¢0.19 to close at GH¢6.52, compared to its previous closing price of GH¢6.71. The stock’s closing bid and offer prices were GH¢6.50 and GH¢6.71 respectively.

ETI also posted significant activity, with 81,780 shares traded. The stock gained GH¢0.11 to close at GH¢1.48, up from GH¢1.37 in the previous session, after reaching an intraday high of GH¢1.50.

CAL recorded a trading volume of 171,434 shares, making it the most traded financial stock for the day.

ACCESS recorded a trading volume of 759 shares and closed at GH¢27.60, reflecting a decline of GH¢3.00 from its previous closing price of GH¢30.60. Meanwhile, GCB traded 4,438 shares and maintained its previous closing price of GH¢36.00.

GOIL slipped slightly by GH¢0.01 to end the session at GH¢7.94, with 7,726 shares traded. TOTAL closed unchanged at GH¢34.89 after recording a trading volume of 1,234 shares, while UNIL also remained flat at GH¢30.00 with 390 shares exchanged.

Trading activity on the Ghana Alternative Market remained dormant during the session, as Samba Foods, Meridian Marshalls, Hords, Intravenous Infusions, and Digicut all recorded zero trading volumes and values.
