The Islamic State group took responsibility for last week’s gun assault on the Pakistani embassy in Afghanistan. The head of the mission was safe, but a guard was wounded.
According to a brief statement issued by ISIS late Saturday, two of its fighters attacked the renegade Pakistani ambassador and his guards while they were in the embassy’s yard. A guard was wounded, and damage was inflicted on the building. It did not provide any additional information.
Friday’s assault on a military base in Kabul has left its mark on Pakistani guard Israr Mohammad. To make matters worse, the operation’s leader, Ubaid-ur-Rehman NizamaniIt, was unharmed.
The tension between the neighbors is increasing since Islamabad’s claims that militants have been backed by anti-Pakistani government forces who orchestrate operations from Afghanistan.
Mohammad was flown to Pakistan for medical treatment.
The Foreign Ministry in Islamabad is trying to confirm the ISIS claim.
