The popular flight ticket database company, ForwardKeys, published a report evaluating the top countries based on tourism rates. The report was generated as an outcome of the COVID-19 pandemic, which affected the travel industry in 2020 and 2021.
A large portion of the top twenty countries is in Central America and the Caribbean.
ForwardKeys reported that as long as tourism-dependent countries had less severe COVID travel restrictions, their numbers were steady.
The country with the highest number of visitors in 2022: The Dominican Republic
A report from the World Tourism Organization reveals that between January 1 and October 18, 2022, the Dominican Republic welcomed 5% more visitors than it did during the same time in 2019. It was the most visited destination in the Caribbean.
Golf courses are plentiful in the Dominican Republic, and some of the most luxurious all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean can be found in La Romana and Punta Cana.
