For the latest headache for Republicans, Trump confirmed a meeting with someone who denies that the Holocaust happened in what was also confirmed to be their third meeting.
Former President Donald Trump hosted white nationalist and antisemite Nick Fuentes at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach on Tuesday night, according to multiple people familiar with the event.
…
“This past week, Kanye West called me to have dinner at Mar-a-Lago,” he wrote. “Shortly thereafter, he unexpectedly showed up with three of his friends, whom I knew nothing about. We had dinner on Tuesday evening with many members present on the back patio. The dinner was quick and uneventful. They then left for the airport.”
However eventful, the dinner reflects a remarkable moment in an extremely early 2024 campaign cycle: the frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination breaking bread with a man who frequently posts racist content and Holocaust revisionism, brought there by a rapper who is launching his own presidential campaign under the shadow of his own antisemitic remarks.
Trump spent Thanksgiving week hanging out with Holocaust deniers, white supremacists, and a man who said women enjoy being raped.
The GOP primaries may not provide a candidate, who is both found to be “a rapist” and is pals with Holocaust deniers — and this may wreak havoc on the ballot in 2024.
Every candidate who appears on a ballot with Trump will be asked about the latest allegations of their possible ties to Fuentes, and they will be questioned about Holocaust denial.
The lesser-known challenger, John Fetterman, was able to successfully beat the Republican candidate, and he did it with one word: “Doug Mastriano.” The name that may not be on anyone’s radar–due to Fetterman’s successful attack strategy–became a shorthand for radical extremism.
Trump’s unlikely to face serious opposition because the Republican Party is likely going to experience the same mistakes it made in 2016 by running a bloated field of many candidates. He’ll be able to win primaries and caucuses with just 30% of the vote.
Republicans really need to nominate a sensible candidate like Mitt Romney in 2024 if they want to avoid another embarrassing loss to Democrats. The dinner with Holocaust deniers is a glimpse of what this country can expect from Trump’s GOP in 2024.
