SHANGHAI: China announced Wednesday that the highest number of Covid-19 cases has been recorded, more than three years after the virus began.
As of Nov. 23, with the exception of imported cases, there were 31,444 local (indigenous) cases in China, 3,927 of which had fever and 27,517 that didn’t.
The number of local cases set on April 13th was 29,317, breaking the old record of 22,457 from May 4th.
There is one death, as opposed to zero the previous day, and this pushes fatalities to 5,232. As of November 23rd, mainland China has documented 297,516 Covid cases with symptoms.
On November 23, Beijing’s municipal government reported that 509 of its residents had symptoms identified as Covid-19. The number indicates an increase from the 388 the day before who reported the same symptoms.
Shanghai health authority reported nine symptomatic cases and 58 asymptomatic cases, compared with 15 symptomatic cases and 53 asymptomatic cases a day before.
According to local authorities, the city of Guangzhou, which has a population of nearly 19 million, has reported 428 new cases of symptomatic disease and 7,192 asymptomatic cases. Compare that to 235 symptomatic and 7,735 asymptomatic cases on the previous day.
As of the most recent update, Chongqing has reported 409 new symptomatic cases of Covid-19 and 7,437 asymptomatic cases. There were 215 symptomatic and 6,728 asymptomatic cases the previous day.
